Simond has a proud tradition which dates back to 1852 when the trust Het Sticht started the private school on these premises. The aim was to provide in the educational needs of the community of the Groot Drakenstein Valley. The school later become a state school and in 1997 it once again became an independent school. Since its founding in that year, Simond Privaatskool has done just that which Het Sticht started in 1852: to provide in the educational, spiritual, cultural and physical needs of young South Africans.

Mission
The school is committed to quality education to prepare its students to become future citizens of this country who will be able to take their place in public life and their careers with well developed skills and with confidence.

Aims
Our aim is to:
• give quality education
• uphold Christian values
• maintain optimal class numbers
• educate students in modern technology
• educate students academically, culturally as well as physically to prepare themselves for their futures

Conditions of acceptance
Prospective students must:
• Be proficient in Afrikaans or English as mother tongue.
• Be prepared to take an entrance examination and abide by the decision which results dictate.
Prospective parents must:
• Pay an enrollment fee
• Sign the necessary forms and indemnities
• Undertake to pay school fees and honour other financial obligations.
• Promise to abide by the school rules, uphold the ethos and vision of the school and commit themselves to the disciplined, academical and Christian culture of the school.

Ethos
The code of conduct is reflected in the philosophy of respect for oneself, the fellow man, nature and God. The code facilitates creative thinking, originality and personality development within an academic environment where we emphasize Afrikaans and/or English as primary language, mathematics, natural science and computer supported education as the basic subjects.

Sport and Culture
Participation in the popular seasonal sports codes is encouraged while individual activities like, ballet, karate and cultural activities can be arranged. Students participate in Eisteddfod, choir, concerts, revues, and olympiads. Individual music lessons in piano, guitar and recorder are offered.

Academic Policy
The school emphasizes in tandem with personality development and individual skills mainly the scholastic and academical abilities of each student. This philosophy is greatly facilitated by the policy that classes should never exceed 20 pupils in grades O and R and 15 in grades 1 to 7.

Enrollment
Enrollments are done throughout the year. The necessary forms are available at school or here on our website : www.simond.co.za
School uniform:
• Girls: Navy skirt in summer, with a white shirt with the school emblem and white socks and black school shoes. A navy button-up jersey / pullover is acceptable. In winter navy track suit pants is worn with a golf shirt with school emblem, a fleece top and white socks and tackies. 
• Boys: Boys wear a white (with insignia) shirt, navy pants, grey socks and black school shoes in summer. A navy pullover or jersey is acceptable on cool days. In winter the dress is the same as that for girls. 
• Sport - see attachment with enrollment papers.

Medium of Tuition
Afrikaans and English is our medium of instruction in dual medium classes. (Phased in to next grade every year - 2012 grade 2.

English- speaking students also attend our school and we maintain a very high standard of English, even as second language.

School hours
School terms are almost parallel with the terms of public schools.

School hours:

Grade 0     : 08:00 - 12:30

Grade R   : 08:00 - 12:45

Grade 1-2 : 08:00 - 12:45

Grade 3   : 08:00 - 14:00 (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) ; 08:00 - 13:00 (Tuesday, Friday)

Grade 4-7 : 08:00 - 14:00 (Monday - Thursday) ; 08:00 - 13:00 (Friday)


School fees
• A non-refundable enrollment fee is payable at student’s acceptance.
• The amount of the enrollment fee and the monthly school fees are determined yearly.

Curriculum
The school offers the following as core subjects:

• Grade 1-7: Afrikaans, English, Mathematics, Natural Science, Computer Literacy and Life Orientation.
• Other subjects include: History,Geography,Economic Business Science.
• All students participate in physical exercise, art,recital and music appreciation.

General information
• School uniform: available at De Jagers in Main Street, Paarl.
• Outings and school tours: it forms an integral part of our curriculum.
• Computers: Formal classes are offered twice a week, while everyday use of computers is allowed for academic work. We also have a computer club.
• Membership: The school is registered as an independent school and is a member of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa (ISASA)
